Natural Gas Cars

June 3rd, 2010 No comments

With the huge BP oil spill that is killing marine life and ruining the ocean, many American’s and the world are thinking of how to take back our precious earth.  One of the ways we can do this is by using fuels that do not harm the environment and that are renewable.  The BP oil spill is helping the world to see how bad our reliability is on oil.  The reality is setting in that we are fine as a people to kill the environment if it means we can fill up our car.  Well if you are like me, i do not think this way and sadly to say, there are plenty of renewable resources right here in our own country that we arent even using.  One such resource is natural gas.

Did you know that Natural Gas wells replenish themselves within a matter of years?  Thats right!  There is natural gas just seeping out of the ground and we are not even harnessing it.  Natural Gas cars, or CNG cars as they are commonly called, use this renewable resource in place of gasoline.  The best part about a CNG car with a CNG kit that has been retrofitted into the engine is that with the flip of a switch, you can choose to run on oil or CNG while in the midst of driving without skipping a beat.  CNG kits costs around 2 thousand dollars, but did you know that a natural gas car can run much longer than a car that runs on gasoline?  Most CNG cars average about 500-700 thousand miles before the engine gives way.  This is a significantly longer lasting time than most cars could even dream of.

Now is the time to stand up and let our legislation know that the T. Boone Pickins dream of having natural gas stations in every state must become a reality if we are to keep our environment in tact.  CNG cars are the replacement of oil as we know it, we just need to push as a society and culture to make this happen!
